ABC is led by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives from Industry leaders in the accounting, law, tax, technology and higher education. The Coalition is dedicated to educating businesses and organizations on accounting matters relevant to digital assets and distributed ledger technology, including blockchain.
Professor of Accounting and Information Systems
Michigan State University
William McCarthy is a Professor of Accounting and Information Systems at Michigan State University. His research focuses on the use of independent-view enterprise models in open value networks and blockchain environments, and these efforts have been supported by the National Science Foundation and by multiple accounting firms. Professor McCarthy worked in the Artificial Intelligence Group of Accenture where he was part of a research team that analyzed the first uses of embedded semantics for the SEC’s EDGAR system. More recently, he was a member of the UN-based ebXML project, and he is an editor for the ISO-based Open-EDI initiative where he was the principal architect of the accounting and economic ontology for Open-EDI (ISO 15944-4). In blockchains, he is the co-editor of a new ISO standard (ISO 15944-15) for Distributed Business Transaction Repositories and Open Value Networks. Professor McCarthy graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Ph.D. in accounting and computer science, and in 2008, he was honored with the American Accounting Association’s Outstanding Accounting Educator Award — the highest award given to accounting professors worldwide.
